02/09/2011 - Supporting Young People on Stoke BSF
The TVW (Thomas Vale/Wates) Consortium responsible for delivering Stoke-on-Trent’s £250million Building Schools for the Future Programme, are aiding the delivery of an event which serves to celebrate local young people across the city in skills development and employment.
Spearheaded by Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s Enterprise and Skills team, the awards embrace learning and celebrate the region’s most outstanding successes.
This year the LearnMore Awards will be the regional highlight of WorldSkills 2011 celebrations and will culminate in a high-profile gala evening at top North Staffordshire venue, The Kings Hall, Stoke, in October.
The City Council’s cabinet member for economic development, Councillor Mark Meredith, adds: “There is a true sense of partnership among employers and education providers as they work together to improve the skills of people across the city.
“This is also true of community groups who support countless families and individuals to achieve their goals in both employment and self-development. They all deserve recognition for the example they set to others.
“These awards give us the opportunity to formally acknowledge people who often don’t realise what an inspiration they are – people with real heart and commitment to learning.
“Our community has so much to offer and the LearnMore Awards 2011 will be a true celebration of those hardworking individuals that make North Staffordshire a special place to live and work.”
BSF Project Director, Tracy Penrose-Gould adds: “The Building Schools for the Future Programme offers a real opportunity to connect with young people to highlight rising stars and those who are playing a core role in shaping the city as it stands today.
“Through the BSF, the consortium will be aiming to lower unemployment rates across the city through a 'think local' ethos bringing local people back into Training, Development and Employment and supporting public sector bodies to make a tangible difference across the region.”
