02/09/2011 - Future Enterprise Board launch Construction Skills Ambassadors
Following the successful launch of Thomas Vales Future Enterprise Board, the Midlands based company is striving for further excellence amongst the younger generation through the ‘CITB-COnstructionSkills Ambassadors’ scheme.
CITB-ConstructionSkills Ambassadors are individuals who already have an active role within the construction industry. Spanning a broad array of disciplines, from surveying and engineering, right through to carpentry, the intention of these ambassadors is to share their own experiences in their roles and promote the industry as an active career choice for youngsters to enter in to.
Representatives from Thomas Vale’s Future Enterprise Board along with other keen members from the business are perfect candidates to take part in this scheme as they are considered to be the future generation of leadership talent. The key role as a CITB-ConstructionSkills Ambassador is to give school students an insight into the world of construction and motivate individuals to consider a career within the Built Environment.
Lorraine Gregory, CITB-ConstructionSkills commented 'The ambassador programme is good for the company, good for individuals, good for the Construction Sector and good for young people. It enables students to have a real insight into what the construction industry can offer in terms of having a varied and exciting career.'
As well as community events, the ambassadors will also attend careers conventions, seminars and site visits. This will increase effective communication and organisational skills and allow the individuals to share their own experiences more powerfully. In turn, this could be the difference between a student deciding between university and an apprenticeship within the industry.
The enthusiasm that Thomas Vale is presenting to this scheme will hopefully benefit many young people within the community as well as build a positive image of the industry.
Don Ward, Chief Executive of Constructing Excellence in the Built Environment, said:
“It is excellent to see a leading contractor investing in the development of their future generation of leadership talent and at the same time supporting local social enterprises. I commend this to other companies who are serious about being at the forefront of the industry”.
