08/09/08 - Thomas Vale take Pupils on a Site Tour of their New School
Representatives from Thomas Vale Construction, the contractors for the £6.5 million project and teachers from St Lukes have so far taken 40 students on a site tour. The tours have been done in small groups and are set to continue when the pupils start back to school in September.
“Visiting the new site has been an invaluable and exciting experience for the pupils involved as they can see the dream of a new school becoming reality. All children participated in Health and Safety talks organised by Thomas Vale, which highlighted the potential dangers of a building site. The site being managed by Thomas Vale is immaculate and is extremely accessible for all pupils and staff involved in the site visits. The children and staff cannot wait to move into the new school.”
Alison Grennan, St Luke’s School, Wolverhampton
We have currently had three tours with the Children and Teachers with the main focus being the erection of the Timber Frame. The children were particularly interested in the construction methods and heavy plant operations which were underway at the time of the visits. We look forward to the next visits which are scheduled for September.

St Luke’s currently comprises of over 400 pupils and operates on a split site with infants on one site and the junior school on the other around a mile away. The new Church of England Aided primary school is now being built on a single site. Land became available for the school when tower blocks on the old Blakenhall Gardens Estate were demolished.
The design as well as the choice of building materials will make the school highly energy efficient and allow a lot of natural daylight into the centre of the school.
“This new school is at the heart of the vibrant, multi-cultural area of Blakenhall which is undergoing massive regeneration. This new school will be a wonderful flagship building that will educate children and provide a hub in the community for all sorts of activities.”
Councillor Gill Fellows, Wolverhampton City Council Cabinet Member for Schools
The state of the art school is due for completion in January 2009.
