The 13th Annual Plaisterers’ Training Awards were held at Plaisterers’ Hall in the City of London on Wednesday 19 October 2011 attended by an audience representing a wide cross-section of the plastering and dry-lining trade, Training Colleges, Independent Training Providers, City Livery Companies with particular links to construction trades and other organisations actively involved in construction skills training.
The Awards were presented by The Rt. Hon. the Lord Mayor of the City of London Alderman Mike Bear, who is the first Lord Mayor to come from a property and construction background. The Lord Mayor acknowledged that the Awards had rightly become known as the ‘Oscars of Plastering Training’. He noted:
"I am delighted to know that these awards recognize the colleges and institutions who train the very best. I congratulate all the winners on their excellent efforts. You make me feel very confident about thefuture of the property and construction industry – my industry.
"I know the importance of skills and innovation to our great City and this great country. These are the very foundations on which our success is built. As the Ambassador for UK financial, professional and business services, I have travelled to 22 countries this year – I just returned from India this weekend.
"A recurring theme of all my visits, has been the UK’s strength in design and construction. Our skills and experience, refined over years, is highly-valued overseas."
Forum Training were awarded the British Gypsum Trophy as the UK's leading independent training provider achieving the highest Level 2 and 3 pass rates in the training of dryliners to become fully qualified and fully skilled.
The purpose of the Worshipful Company of Plaisterers is to support and make a difference to the industry they represent, the charities they assist, their affiliations with the Armed Forces, and the Lord Mayor and the City of London.
In particular, the Company supports the Plastering and Drylining Industry through its Associates Scheme, College Mentoring and the Plaisterers’ Annual Training Awards. It offers a number of bursaries to students and trained practitioners who wish to enhance their knowledge or experience.
