22/10/10 - Thomas Vale Donate Tools to College

Etone College is excited about the prospect of adding Brickwork to its existing Construction course delivered as part of their Applied Learning offer to students in KS4. Students have the opportunity to pursue a BTEC Level 2 course in Construction which up to now has only included Plumbing and Electrical modules.

Thanks to the kind donations of Thomas Vale Construction who are the current contractors for the Etone College Sixth Form which is due to open in September 2011, students will now benefit from an additional unit being added to the existing programme.

Adrian Kenny, Contracts Manager at Thomas Vale Construction said; “The Thomas vale project team is very delighted to be able to provide support for the Etone students. It is most rewarding to see that construction courses are being provided at the Etone education complex. We hope that the donations provided meet the expectations of the staff and students. This is a great boost for our future generation.”

The addition of Brickwork to the existing course in Plumbing and Electrical means that students will work towards a BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Construction.

Students will now gain a more rounded insight into the Construction industry and will complete a qualification equivalent to two GCSEs grades A*-C. The resources including specialist tools and equipment donated by Thomas Vale will enable students to develop their knowledge of Bricklaying and students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their practical skills within a work related environment.

Elliot Davies, student at Etone College said: "I would like to thank Thomas Vale for their generous donation of equipment and materials, to lay the base of the concrete work area and complete the practical BTEC Construction. Without this donation we would not have been able to run the course, so we all are deeply grateful."

The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Construction is designed to introduce learners to work in the construction sector whilst preparing them for further qualifications.

The course is a two year programme, students complete core units such as Structure of the Construction Industry and Exploring Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction as well as additional units in Plumbing, Electrical and now Brickwork and Trowel Occupations.

This is an encouraging opportunity for students and the expansion of the course will enable students to develop their knowledge and skills further within the industry.
