06/10/09 - Thomas Vale Construction Sponsor Champion Kickboxer
27 year old kick boxing champion, Peter Quinn, is preparing for the fight of his life next week as Midlands based contractor, Thomas Vale Construction sponsor him to attend the kick boxing, European Championships from the 6th-10th of October in Rome, Italy.
Peter Quinn has practiced martial arts since the age of 8 and has been competing in kick boxing for the past 3 years. He has managed to accumulate an excellent fight record whilst winning Midland, English and British titles along the way. In March 2009, he won the gold medal in his category (men’s – 75kg) at the English Championships which resulted in automatic qualification for the European Championships in Rome next week.
Unlike boxing and other sports, amateur kick boxing in the UK receives no funding from the Government or from Sport England and must be self funded. Due to Peter’s success he has developed into one of the UK’s leading amateur kick boxers, ranking in the UK’s top 10. It is becoming increasingly necessary for Peter to travel further afield to find suitable oppositions to test his skill level. Peter competed in the World Championships in the Czech Republic last year, which allowed him to gain invaluable experience competing to international standards and resulted in him bringing home the bronze medal. Now with a wealth of experience under his belt, he is confident that he can travel to Rome next week and return with a gold medal.
Peter Quinn commented;“I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks and appreciation for Thomas Vale’s generosity and help in making my trip to compete in Rome at the European Championships possible. I have trained extremely hard with months of preparation since qualifying in March at the English Championships and with only a few training sessions left before I leave on Monday night, I am feeling confident about the Championship in Rome."
Peter is just as focused on his education as he is with his training and is currently being sponsored by Sandwell Homes to read for a degree in Quantity Surveying part time at Birmingham City University. This has allowed him to gain first hand experience within the construction industry whilst gaining a qualification.
Thomas Vale Construction wish Peter the best of luck and look forward to hearing from him upon his return.
