21/10/08 - Thomas Vale use SolarSmart Solutions on £1 million project for Worcestershire
Thomas Vale, the Midlands and Thames Valley based construction company, which has an annual turnover of £200 million, last year secured a £1 million project to build eight houses in Coppice Close, Hallow. The project is being carried out through a four-year agreement awarded to the contractor by Spectrum Development Partnership, which aims to build 1,000 new affordable homes in the West Midlands each year.
Each of the houses have been fitted with a SolarSmart 90 solar panel, a renewable energy source which Thomas Vale believe is undoubtedly the way forward as they not only reduce the reliance fossil fuels but also have minimal negative impact on the environment.
Climate change, rising gas prices and the depletion of the earth’s fossil fuels are some of today’s most pressing issues. They are no longer concerns that we will have to face at some point in the future they need addressing today.
SolarSmart collects solar radiation via a roof-mounted panel, converting it to energy which is used to heat a volume of stored water. A boiler is used as back-up to raise this to the correct temperature, if necessary. As the water is partially heated by the solar element, even when it does fire, the boiler is rarely required to operate at full load.
Unlike conventional solar thermal systems that use a system boiler, it uses a combination boiler which gives SolarSmart a considerable advantage over conventional systems.
“The industry knows that Thomas Vale Construction is at the forefront of change and many of our competitors strive to meet the targets and challenges we set our own business. We will ensure that our environmental targets and our client’s aspirations are met and exceeded.”
Tony Hyde, Managing Director of Thomas Vale Construction
