01/11/2011 - Celebrations at Streetsbrook
Pupils at Streetsbrook Infant and Nursery School celebrated the opening of their £1.5 million new school facilities with a commemoration assembly for special guests including Warwickshire Cricketer Jim Troughton, and former Headteacher of 22 years Mrs Luther-Jones. Pupils were delighted when ‘The Stig’ drove Jim Troughton into the school playground in a Jaguar XKS sports car. The school has also forged links with Jaguar Land Rover who have recently completed some landscaping and other works following the building project.
The refurbishment and extension works carried out by Midlands contractor Thomas Vale Construction began in February 2010. The Solihull based school has a complete new roof, new reception area, nursery and reception classrooms, staff room, refurbished library and ICT suite and new external soft play area. Additional works included the refurbishment of the existing pool house.
Paul Burchell, Director, Thomas Vale Construction commented: “It has been a pleasure to work with the staff, pupils and governors at Streetsbrook. The enthusiasm and drive the team has to improve the learning environment for their pupils is second to none. We hope they enjoy their new facilities for many years to come.”
After the celebration assembly which was attended by members of Solihull MBC, Thomas Vale Construction and governors, pupils gathered to watch Mrs Minter unveil the commemorative plaque followed by Jim Troughton planting a tree to celebrate the day. Guests were then invited to the Luther-Jones Library named after former Headteacher of Streetsbrook Mrs Luther-Jones for further celebrations.
Mrs Minter, Head Teacher added: “We are all absolutely thrilled with our new building, and it has made a significant difference to all aspects of teaching and learning. A very sincere thank you to all at Thomas Vale for their hard work in building us a truly fantastic learning environment.”
