22/11/2011 - Thousands Raised at 10k Run
Thomas Vale’s very own Keith Reeves and Richard Pincher took part in the long but rewarding race in Cannock. More than 250 runners braved the cold weather to take part in a 10k run to raise thousands of pounds for charity.
The Rotary Club of Cannock organised the event, which started at the Cannock Chase visitor centre in Marquis Drive. Organisers say 261 runners attended the event – an increase from last year’s entry figures of 210. Coming home with the fastest time of 36 minutes and 46 seconds was 44-year-old Mark Rogers while the first woman was Jill McGee, aged 47, with a time of 43 minutes 23 seconds.
Richard Baker, who helped to organise the event on behalf of the rotary club, said: “It’s a road course but all within Cannock Chase so quite a nice run although fairly hilly at points. The feedback we had from those taking part was good and we think at least £3,000 has been raised for the club. Entries included a wide range of ages and people seemed to enjoy it.”
