26/11/09 - Pantomime Horse Grand National 2009 Sponsored by Thomas Vale Construction

The Pantomime Horse Grand National sponsored by Thomas Vale Construction took over centenary square and one of Birmingham’s busiest roads, Broad Street, to host the 2009 Races in association with Birmingham City Council. The family event saw 100’s turn up for the enjoyable social event of the year. These Races help to kick off the start of the pantomime season in a truly British style – in homage to the famous Grand National at Aintree.

Over 24 contenders took part in the 481 long race. The route started on Broad Street by Centenary Square, went down to Gas Street and then back up Broad Street and finished back by Centenary Square. All money raised went to the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal, which this year included St Basil’s and Pancreatic Cancer Research. The winner of each race received a bottle of champagne, a night at the Hyatt Hotel and a trophy, awarded by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham Cllr Michael Wilkes, and Tony Hyde, Managing Director of Thomas Vale Construction.

Tony Hyde, Thomas Vale’s managing director commented:"Thomas Vale is as proud this year as the first to support this event on behalf of the city and the Lord Mayor’s charities. The event brings together local businesses and people from across Birmingham and the Midlands to work as one team for the benefit of those less fortunate than ourselves."
