18/05/10 - Trainees gain valuable experience through Thomas Vale
Midlands largest privately owned contractor Thomas Vale Construction and Future Skills Dudley, worked collaboratively to help 74 local trainees gain valuable experience on site of the new Dudley Townsend Heritage Initiative offices situated in the former Crown Public House.
Ian Smiths, Contracts Manager at Thomas Vale Construction, Commented:“Thomas Vale are proud to of been working with Dudley Townscape heritage who helped us make it possible for all the trainees to gain such experience. The project was the first of its kind, and it was very interesting and rewarding to work on.”
Whilst not only receiving knowledge from a variety of trades on site, the local trainees were able to gain first hand experience of the construction industry. This experience has provided the trainees with increased chances of acquiring similar jobs in the future.
Future Skills Dudley has developed a range of services to suit individual circumstances and abilities, as well as the needs of employers. Their ultimate aim is to help and encourage people into sustainable employment.
The project involved major refurbishment works, creating new office space for the Dudley Townscape Heritage Initiative. The quarter of million pound project underwent numerous refurbishment works internally and externally including new electrics, new floors and restoration works on the exterior clock tower, brick work and windows.
The Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) is a grant giving programme funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). Its objective is to support schemes that aim to regenerate historic environments in urban areas across the United Kingdom.
