07/05/08 - BCP Regeneration Team Expands
The continued success and growth of Thomas Vale Construction was reflected by 42 new members of staff commencing on 1st April 2008. The team will be working on year five of the Birmingham Construction Partnership ‘Decent Homes Scheme’ which has now been extended to seven years.
Birmingham City Council's Urban Design Department, Thomas Vale and two other contractors have committed to working together as a team, focusing on improving the design, cost and quality of buildings for the City to ensure that they meet the ‘decent homes’ standard. Together they form the BCP (Birmingham Construction Partnership) The Government has set a target to ensure that all social housing meets standards of decency by 2010. Currently a third of all housing in England falls below the that standard. Poor housing and poor environments are detrimental to people’s quality of life; Decent Homes are an essential part of a sustainable community.
The BCP is the primary vehicle for refurbishment, extension and development of public
The new staff were welcomed by the current Decent homes team at an Induction event held at Moseley Rugby Club. Everyone had the opportunity to get to know their peers after the long awaited process of TUPE (The Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment) was completed.
“A warm welcome was provided and enthusiasm resulted from staff and operatives who have all worked hard to ensure that everyone felt part of the Thomas Vale family”
Paul Dockerill, Thomas Vale Construction
The whole team are looking forward to the future challenges of the scheme, worth £25 million this year, and with the wealth of experience and knowledge that already exists and that which has been brought in by the new members the team are ready to go.
The Birmingham Construction Partnership was formulated in 2004 to deliver all Capital Building Projects with a value exceeding £100,000. To date it has been allocated over 300 projects with a value of almost £500m.
Due to the major success of the Framework, the Partnership has recently been extended by a further two years, and now runs until January 2011. The BCP has been listed by the OGC as an Exemplar project and has received industry recognition during 2007 celebrating the successes of the Partnership. These include the National Award for Integration and Collaboration in the Constructing Excellence Awards and the first ever Contract Journal Supreme Award for changing the way the U.K. Construction Industry works.
