01/05/08 - John Runs the London Marathon

On Sunday 13th April John East, Commercial Manager at Thomas Vale Construction accomplished the London Marathon in an impressive 4 hours 11 minutes, even with injury!

He ran in aid of raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Unit at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. Cystic Fibrosis is the most common form of genetic disease, and there is no known cure. The money raised from events like this has helped enormously with understanding how to treat this disease and as a result the life expectancy of sufferers has increased considerably over the years. However, there is still no cure and it is vital that there are continuous efforts to spend more money on research and treatment until this is achieved

John has so far raised a notable £2000 and hopefully more will follow.

John comments - “I remembered the cameras and showboated the last 5 yards crossing the finish line in 4 hrs 11 mins a personal best thrashing my previous record by a full 4 minutes. Fantastic. Still the most credible achievement on the day is the money raised for Ward 26 of Heartlands Hospital”

John has also previously ran the London Marathon in 2001 and New York Marathon in 2002.
