25/03/10 - Thomas Vale Look Set to Transform New Council Offices in the East Midlands

Leicestershire County Council is working with local contractors, Thomas Vale Construction to transform and modernise the way it delivers services to the citizens of Leicestershire, an essential component in this transformation is the introduction of new ways of working, to make the best use of resources and to maximize efficiency.

“Thomas Vale are extremely proud to have been selected as Framework Partners to deliver the County Hall refurbishment programme for Leicestershire County Council. The ‘Work Well’ scheme will provide excellent and efficient workspace for the 3500 employees of Leicestershire County Council throughout the County Hall Campus.

Over 3 years we aim to deliver over 12,000 m2 of refurbished office accommodation, and provide support to an extremely challenging decant process, spread over several remote sites”. Said Paul McCormick, Partnership Manager at Thomas Vale Construction.

“This framework will give Thomas Vale a valuable strategic position in the East Midlands, and help to raise the company profile.”

The Council carried out a comprehensive review of its existing office accommodation, in order to help it understand and identify future requirements and so produced an effective office strategy to ensure it is equipped with the facilities required to operate effectively and efficiently into the foreseeable future.

The vision to which the Council is committing envisages accommodation which is of good quality, of low environmental impact, as well as being flexible. It will in the main be open plan in concept, with break-out areas, meeting rooms and spaces designed for confidentiality. With fixed workstations and touch-down facilities, similar to internet cafes, the refurbished accommodation will support new working , by using methods new to Leicestershire County Council such as hot desking, as well as greater use of home-working.

Midlands based contractor, Thomas Vale Construction will be involved in the refurbishment of facilities for Leicestershire County Council and will be working on 15-20 phases during the project. The work will continue over a period of three years and will look to complete in December 2012.

The scope of works likely to be required in most of the phases includes Rewiring, Mechanical engineering, Ceiling and flooring works, Lighting, Partition organisation, Plumbing, Redecoration and other general building construction works.
