31/03/11 - Mount Pleasant Pupils Celebrate New School
Award winning Thomas Vale Construction and Mount Pleasant Primary School celebrate continuing progress of their new school with a balloon release this week.
The balloon launch symbolized the completion of phase 1 of their new school. Each KS2 child attended the balloon launch. Two balloons from each class had a wish card attached; Thomas Vale has promised to donate a prize for each card found.
Paul Bennett, Site Manager, Thomas Vale Construction, commented
"We continue to work together with Mount Pleasant Primary School and Shropshire Council with a very informal and positive attitude towards our mutual goal which has produced many benefits on both sides"
The £2.3million extension and refurbishment will include a new kitchen area which will accommodate a new food store and preparation area, classrooms, toilets and a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA).
Alan Brannen, Head Teacher of Mount Pleasant Primary School, commented;
“We’re all so excited about the new building! The Junior pupils are delighted with their new classrooms, which have been completed in the first phase of work and the balloon launch was a great way to symbolize a journey that’s taking us onwards and upwards. We just can’t wait to get the Nursery and Infant pupils into the school too – that is when we’ll finally all be together under one roof. It’s going to be brilliant!”
Back in the summer children from the school had the opportunity to understand and learn about the dangers of a building site at their school Fete, where Thomas Vale staff explained the dangers and presented children with ‘Safe or Sorry’ books outlining the potential hazards through cartoons.
The ‘Safe or Sorry’ (SOS) Initiative designed and implemented by Thomas Vale, follows on from numerous others that are undertaken when working in schools and high residential areas; highlighting the potential dangers and local respect issues that can surround live construction sites.
The project is due to complete in the summer.
