10/03/11 - Work begins at Birmingham Airport

Midlands based civil engineers Fitzgerald Contractors have begun a £700k project at Birmingham Airport where they will be constructing a new access road to a new 200 bedroom hotel.

The 24 week project will involve the remediation of an existing brown field site, along with the construction of a new access road, hotel car park and short stay car park on part of Birmingham Airport’s Elmdon site.

Jonathan Fletcher, Business Development Manager, commented

"We are delighted to have been awarded this contract with Birmingham Airport who are an important new client for us".

The works are to be undertaken in four distinct construction phases, designed to interface with the construction of a new Travelodge hotel. The provision of the necessary infrastructure will include extensive earthworks, storm and foul water drainage, storm attenuation and oil separation systems, together with bituminous carriageway surfacing.

In addition, the proposed scope of works includes the provision of new gas, water, and fire main services, and extensive ducting and lighting (inc. high mast lighting).
