24/03/09 - Celebrating a New Start at Horninglow School

 

Children from Horninglow School buried a special time capsule this week containing maps, photographs and other memorabilia marking their schools past.The time capsule was buried to celebrate the start of building work on the school, by contractors Thomas Vale Construction. Teachers, Governors and pupils from Horninglow Infants School, as well as local County Councillors attended the event to celebrate memories of the old school, whilst looking forward to the £1.4 million transformation of the new school.

Ian Coombes, Partnership Manager, Thomas Vale Construction commented: The time capsule has given the children of Horninglow School an insight into the past, whilst this exciting project will ensure their future with modern facilities. Thomas Vale Construction is very pleased to be involved.

Work to modernise the school has already started, it will include a complete refurbishment as well as the installation of a mezzanine floor. The school will have places for 210 pupils and a nursery. It will combine state of the art facilities and innovative design in order to become a focal point for the community of Horninglow, as well as increasing the school’s capacity.

County Councillor Peter Davies, support member for schools, said: “This ceremony is very important to the people of Horninglow. It celebrates the wealth of history we have surrounding Horninglow Infant’s School, and ensures that this is not forgotten. It is also about looking forward, and anticipating a modern, state-of-the-art school that the people of Horninglow can be proud of.”

Headteacher of Horninglow, Paula Evans, said: “This is an exciting development for the school and will ensure that the facilities we have will enhance the learning for the children in the future.”

It is estimated that the school will take around twelve months to be built, with an anticipated opening late in 2009.
