19/03/09 - £6 million Makeover for Dudley School

Work is now complete on the first phase of the multi-million pound transformation of Wrens Nest Primary school in Dudley. The state of the art building, constructed by Thomas Vale Construction has seen the creation of a two-storey building, housing 12 new classrooms, a new dining hall, a kitchen and five small group rooms for one-to-one learning.

The major development also has a new reception area, toilets and staff and visitor car parks. A section of roof space has been secured, paved and landscaped to allow children to learn in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Head teacher Ruth Wylie said: “Wren’s Nest is very much a school for our community and we are delighted that we have a new school which is designed to support the Government’s drive to ensure successful outcomes for every child and every family. We aim for the new Wren’s Nest Primary School and Children’s Centre to be the jewel of the estate ensuring quality education and services for everyone.”

The construction work was planned to make sure learning was not disrupted and pupils could continue to be taught in the school’s existing classrooms until the opening of the new building. The old classrooms will now be demolished and a new playing field created in their place. Phase two of the development will see three existing classrooms and the dining hall refurbished with the focus on supporting community needs, with adult courses, sports and ICT facilities on offer. The new development will complement the new Wren’s Nest Children’s Centre also on the site, enabling the school to offer support to residents of all ages.
