18/06/10 - It’s a Knockout!
Staff from Thomas Vale Construction will be taking part in It’s a Knockout on Sunday the 20th June to help raise money for Compton Hospice in Wolverhampton.
It’s a Knockout was a British television gameshow broadcast on BBC One. Commentators included Eddie Waring, David Vine and Stuart Hall.
It featured teams representing a town or city competing tasks in absurd games, generally dressed in large foam rubber suits. Games were played in the home town’s park, with weather often turning grassland into mud.
The games were described as school sports day for adults. For example, teams would carry buckets of water over greasy poles or rolling logs. Other teams would interfere, squirting water cannons or throwing custard pies.
16 representatives will be taking part in Sunday’s event which will be held at West Park in Wolverhampton. Compton Hospice will be providing a compere to host the event, providing an added touch of ‘Stuart Hall’ humour and nostalgia to the event which also uses some of the genuine costumes and props from the BBC Show.
Spectators are welcome to turn up on the day between 1 and 4 to show their support. For more information on this event please contact Aimee Hyde.
