11/06/09 - Birmingham City Lay Assessors Conference
The scheme aims to encourage contractors working on and adjacent to the City’s streets to undertake their operations in a safe and considerate manner with due regard to all road users including businesses, residents and pedestrians.
Contractor’s performance is monitored by Lay Assessors who undertake random audits of contractors on street activities to assess their customer care measures and approach to health and safety and the environment. The Fitzgerald Management team were recently asked to support the Considerate Contractors Lay Assessors Conference, an annual event to promote the scheme and advise the scheme assessors about best practice. Fitzgerald Health, Safety and Welfare Officer, Mike Gittins, gave an insight into the practicalities of setting up traffic management on site to enable safe passage of pedestrians and was assisted by Contract Manager, Steve Jones, in a training demonstration on site. Nicky Esquilant, the Conference organiser and promoter of the Scheme for the City Council commented on Fitzgerald’s input “I would like to pass on my thanks to you all for making yesterday’s Considerate Contractors Lay Assessor Conference such a wonderful success. The practical workshop of setting up a bad site was brilliant. I really think the assessors and the other representatives from the contractors have all learnt massively from the demonstrations. So thank you for all that you have done…………..Your support of the scheme is much appreciated and I cannot thank you all enough”.
Councillor Timothy Huxtable added "I would like to thank you for your collaboration at this conference. We very much appreciated your time and efforts in setting up and presenting such a worthwhile workshop".
