29/07/11 - Young people make public artwork for hoardings at New Council Offices site

Along with Chairman of the Council, Councillor Stephen Clee and members of Thomas Vale Construction, young people from local schools were given the chance to admire the artwork that adorns the hoardings to the site.

It has been designed and painted by students from Burlish Park Primary School, Sutton Park Primary, Birchen Coppice Primary and Stourport High School. The new Headquarters on Finepoint Business Park is part of the Council’s transformation programme. It is predicted that the new administrative offices on one site will save the Council £500,000 a year in running costs, which could be used to protect frontline services. The project will also reduce the Council’s carbon dioxide emissions from offices by 85 per cent. Construction is expected to finish in Summer 2012.

Councillor Stephen Clee, Chairman of the Council said: “We are delighted with the artwork the children have produced and their interest in our new headquarters. They have captured the drive behind this project and what we’re working towards, in particular focusing on how it will reduce our impact on the environment.” Jon Davies, Contracts Manager Thomas Vale said: “We are privileged to have been awarded the contract to construct this new facility for the Council. The artwork that has been produced by these local pupils reflects the brighter future in which this project will bring to the Wyre Forest area."

Carly Morson Art Teacher at Burlish Park Primary School commented: "Children at Burlish Park Primary thoroughly enjoyed designing and creating their art board. It really raised their self-esteem knowing that their work was going to be displayed publicly. They were overjoyed to be invited to work with the council and Thomas Vale on this project." The paintings will remain on the site throughout the duration of the build.
