29/07/11 - Chesterton Vision Centre scores highest ever Considerate Constructors average
The site, based in Chesterton, Staffordshire, has had two consecutive visits from the auditors for the scheme – with both sites averaging at 37. Tony Hyde, Group Managing Director added: “This is fantastic news for the new Vision Centre project in Chesterton. Make no mistake; it is no easy task to ‘average’ at 37 – the highest to have ever been seen within Thomas Vale. To gain such a score on the first visit was exemplary – to gain it again on the second visit from the independent auditors is outstanding, the project team must have really worked at being seen as ‘considerate’ and a ‘good neighbour’. The Considerate Constructors Scheme is a great example of a major industry taking voluntary action to drive good practice. The standards set by the Scheme for neighbourliness, cleanliness and environmental care, and their adoption by construction businesses, all contribute to a positive image of the industry at a community level. The Scheme is concerned about any area of construction activity that may have a direct or indirect impact on the image of the industry as a whole. The main areas of concern fall into three main categories: the environment, the workforce and the general public. Chris Edwards, Considerate Constructors Scheme auditor noted: “Geoff is totally committed to the scheme and his enthusiasm is to be applauded. He is fully engaged with the local community and is to be warmly congratulated.” The Chesterton Vision Centre’ was awarded nearly £4.4 million under the ‘Myplace’ scheme, which is administered by the Big Fund, the non Lottery funding operation of the Big Lottery Fund. It will see the site of the former Chesterton Youth Centre transformed into a ‘Vision Centre’, with state of the art facilities for the whole community.
