23/07/10 - Thomas Vale Work in Partnership with Shelforce

Midlands based company, Shelforce, has been branching out into new directions as two locally based firms, Thomas Vale Construction and Moores Furniture, work in partnership with the previously windows and doors based manufacturers, to deliver fitted kitchens as part of the decent homes scheme across the Midlands.

Andrew Fellows, General Manager at Shelforce said: “The windows and doors industry is going through a transition and Shelforce needs to develop, kitchen units are the next stage of our development. Through Thomas Vale, we found a partner, Moores who also have the same ethos as us.”

Established in 1860, Shelforce has over 15 years of experience in working with local Authorities and Housing associations to provide window and door solutions for all social housing requirements.

Originally the company helped to integrate injured soldiers from World War 1 back into society by providing them with employment opportunities. Shelforce continue to facilitate injured soldiers today as well as providing work for vulnerable groups and people with disabilities.

As a supported business dedicated to helping people with disabilities, Shelforce offers employment opportunities both internally and through external placements, ensuring people with the most needs are assisted into meaningful employment.

Paul Dockerill, Director at Thomas Vale Construction commented: “The first time we walked around the factory floor and saw everyone doing their work, we were absolutely inspired. My terminology about disability changed over night, we always talk about ability now and that’s the big buzz word for us, it’s about ability and what people can do.

We have the opportunity to look forward, to look within our supply chain and say, how do we all come together to make it work and sustain all of our futures. This is the beginning of something great, this will be a success story, this will be good for Shelforce and this will be their future.”

Moore’s is providing Shelforce with the ready made flat pack kitchens which are being delivered to the factory, the teams at Shelforce are then able to install them into homes across the Midlands through Thomas Vale Construction, providing local residents with a higher standard of living.

Director at Moore’s comments: “I think it’s fair to say that we are very proud to be associated with this, it’s a magnificent enterprise, everybody we have met is really passionate about what they are doing and we have loved working with our friends from Shelforce and Thomas Vale.”

Shelforce can offer training opportunities for the vulnerable groups in your neighbourhood and employment support for people with disabilities. They also provide ground-breaking recycling initiatives and offer guidance and advice developed from a wealth of experience in all of these areas.
