14/07/10 - Thomas Vale Attend School Fete
Children from Mount Pleasant Primary School in Shrewsbury enjoyed their annual school Fete over the weekend which included a stand, set up by Thomas Vale Construction. The Midlands based contractors are due to start refurbishment and extension works on the school this month, taking the opportunity to talk to teachers, pupils and parents about the project as well as answer any questions.
Rob Lashford, Director at Thomas Vale Construction comments: “The experience was a fantastic occasion to promote the planned improvements at the school, ahead of the works starting on site later this month. Parents, children and staff were all very enthusiastic about the project and delighted to see how much progress, during the preconstruction phase, had already been completed. We are all looking forward to integrating with the school and local community during our time on site.”
Children from the school had the opportunity to understand and learn about the dangers of a building site at the Fete, where Thomas Vale staff explained the dangers and presented children with ‘Safe or Sorry’ books outlining the potential hazards through cartoons.
The ‘Safe or Sorry’ (SOS) Initiative designed and implemented by Thomas Vale, follows on from numerous others that are undertaken when working in schools and high residential areas; highlighting the potential dangers and local respect issues that can surround live construction sites.
The children were also given the chance to observe a real life excavator whilst wearing a hard hat and high visibility jacket.
