15/07/09 - Outstanding Achievement
On Friday 10th July 2009 Midlands based Thomas Vale Construction received an award for Outstanding Achievement for Employment and Training by The National Skills Academy for Construction (NSAfC).
The award for outstanding contribution for employment and training has been designed to highlight and reward the unsung heroes of the project who have committed time and effort to training of either themselves or those around them. This award is a real recognition of the hard work which has gone into training on top of their existing workloads.
Thomas Vale Employees Joshua Jones and Dayle Pearce were also runners up for Training Achievement of the Year and Apprentice of the Year. Paul Dockerill, Director of Thomas Vale Construction, accepted the award and commented: "To be highlighted and rewarded by any client is a great compliment for any business. Having a highly motivated client allows you to be productive and creative within the workplace. I'm personally pleased with the award having been with the National Skills Academy since it's inception three years ago and immensely proud that Wolverhampton Homes achieved their status and recognised the hard work from the whole team.""The National Skills Academy for Construction (NSAfC) offers a flexible opportunity to deliver training opportunities at all levels. There are currently 28 projects nationally and for Wolverhampton Homes to be selected reflects their dedicated approach to creating work opportunities in a time when they are most needed. The commitment within the Decent Homes programme to develop sustainable apprenticeships and "real" work opportunities reflects the true ethos of the NSAfC scheme and Wolverhampton Homes should be proud to be a leading example within this national scheme." National Skills Academies for Construction offer an ‘on-site’ approach to learning and are part of the Government’s National Skills Academy programme - an innovative employer-led approach to delivering construction training that harnesses the opportunities provided by major construction projects. Senior representative from Wolverhampton homes, Thomas Vale Construction, Bullock construction and FHM all attended, and examined some of the refurbishment work carried out so far on more than 6,000 homes across the city. Lesley Roberts, Chief Executive of Wolverhampton Homes, added:“Over the past twelve months, working in partnership with Frank Haslam Milan, Thomas Vale and Bullock Construction, we have taken on 28 apprentices and held nine work experience placements with schools and local education providers. We value local labour as well as helping and supporting young people learn new skills and get into work. In addition, we have held four events promoting the varied and satisfying careers4 available in construction to local students - all while achieving a 94% satisfaction rating from our tenants on the Decent Homes refurbishment work carried out in their homes.” This is two firsts for Wolverhampton Homes and their partners - Wolverhampton Homes is the first ever ALMO (Arms Length Management Organisation) to be registered as a National Skills Academy for Construction and it is the first time a Decent Homes partnership in the country has been named as an academy too.
