09/07/09 - Thomas Vale Ladies complete Race for Life

This week seven ladies from Thomas Vales took to the tracks for the Race for Life 2009 at Sandwell Valley Country. The ladies were able to successfully finish 5k in 40 minutes.

Carol Appleton, Sam Egginton, Amy Gibbs, Joanne Woodall, Natalie Young, Marie McCarthy and Angela Gismondi were among the 3000 participants that took part and represented for Thomas Vale Construction. Race for Life is the largest women only fundraising event in the UK. It started off in 1994 and every year continues to encourage women to take part. So far over four million women have been apart of cancer research fundraisers and have raised £240 million. All sponsorships go towards their vital work. This includes funding the work of over 4,500 scientists, doctors and nurses who are dedicated to help people beat cancer. “The Race for Life is an event which is close to my heart; I do the race for life every year and think it is a good cause. It is well organised and makes warming up and running fun.” Carol Appleton, HR Training Manager, Thomas Vale Construction The Thomas Vale women were able to raise £800, this going towards the £62.5m Race for Life target.
