11/01/2012 - Thomas Vale makes great progress on £4.6 million Primary School

A brand new facility for staff and pupils at St Georges Primary School in Kidderminster is due for completion this spring. The project was awarded to Stourport on Severn based Contractor Thomas Vale Construction who are working on time and to budget for Worcestershire County Council through West Midlands Contractors Framework.

The school is really starting to take shape with the masonry structure now finished. The green roof construction and covering is near completion, this is to help insulate the building, reduce water run off and increase bio diversity in the area. The windows are currently being installed and mechanical and electrical installations have commenced.

Richard Green, Divisional Director, Thomas Vale Construction said: “We are well underway with the construction of this Primary School. This will be the second project Thomas Vale has completed through the West Midlands Contractors Framework. The site team have a strong relationship with the school holding regular site meetings to ensure the project is delivered on time, within budget.”

In 2010 the County Council launched its Contractor Framework and invited firms from across the country to bid to get on board. The Contractor Framework sees the authority's property contracts over £1 million in value being shared between three firms.

Thomas Vale has been joined by Kier Moss in Cheltenham and Malvern's Speller Metcalfe in securing their place on the framework. The Framework was set up to not just to get better value for money on major projects but also improve the way they are delivered. Local community benefits are sought which could include enhanced product supply and employment opportunities as the selected contractors will be encouraged to 'think local', and will be able to plan around an ongoing stream of work within the local area.

In December 2011 Thomas Vale handed over the first of their projects through West Midlands Contractors Framework. £6.4 million Stourport Primary School will open it’s door in January 2012 to pupils.
