14/01/11 - Voids get Eco Make Over
Award winning Thomas Vale Construction has recently began work to the value of £250k on an eco-terrace refurbishment in Newcastle-under-Lyme for Staffordshire Housing Association. Throughout the 16 week project we will be refurbishing an existing Victorian terrace house into 2 modern day houses with high environmental specifications.
To meet the reduction in carbon emissions that the housing industry recognizes it must achieve, it is vital we improve the performance of existing properties, rather than focus solely on new build schemes. This refurbishment will radically improve the energy performance, environmental friendliness, and quality of space.
The houses are designed to Swedish PassivHaus standards energy efficiency and will allow natural energy gains from the sun to create key environmental improvements, that is less reliant on short lived technology and create better room layouts.
Matt Wisdom, Environmental manager, Thomas Vale Construction commented;
Thomas Vale are pleased to be working with Staffordshire Housing Association on the eco terrace houses. Developing and promoting new sustainable solutions is a high priority for us and this exciting project will educate and encourage others to make similar changes.
