18/02/09 - £5.3 million Care Home in Gloucestershire
Residents are settling in to their new home this week, Chestnut Court Care Home in Gloucestershire. The £5.3 million care home, constructed by West Midlands based construction company Thomas Vale in partnership with the Gloucestershire Care Partnership, will replace Woolstrop House in Quedgeley and Podsmead Court in Gloucester.
The home has been constructed in two phases, minimising disruption to residents. The existing Woolstrop building will now be demolished allowing work to start on the second phase of construction which is due for completion in November 2009. The residents and staff from Podsmead Court will move into their new accommodation and the whole development will then be complete.
Stuart Logan, Thomas Vale commented; The project has been and will continue to be very much a team effort in all disciplines, from the client, design team, and the subcontractors on site. This has resulted in an excellent flow of information, producing a product we are proud of and I am sure the residents will be very happy with their new home.
The design of the new home has been based on the principles of providing plenty of space and the ability to use modern care aids and equipment. It will be arranged in four care suites each of which will have its own communal lounges, dining room and assisted bathing facilities. The 80 spacious resident bedrooms all have en suite bathrooms, including wc, wash and hand basin and level access shower. At the heart of the home will be a bar shop and beauty salon off the entrance foyer and a large residents lounge at first floor level providing a focal meeting point to the home.
