03/12/10 - Housing Minister Visits Kettering
This month saw a visit from Grant Shapps MP, Housing Minister, to Orbit’s Furnace Lane eco-homes development on the outskirts of Kettering in Northamptonshire, which is being constructed by local contractor, Thomas Vale Construction.
The £4.5m affordable Housing project is providing 51 new homes, available for rent, shared ownership, and outright sale.
The Minister was given a tour of the site, and was accompanied by senior officials from Kettering Council, Orbit Housing Group, and Thomas Vale Construction.
The purpose of his visit was to launch the 'New Homes Bonus' scheme, which rewards local Councils for Housing Growth, and could bring over £10m to the Borough of Kettering over the life of the scheme.
Mr Shapps commented:
"This is exactly the kind of high-quality and affordable family housing that this country needs to create strong communities for the future.
"Furnace Lane shows how collaboration between Government, councils like Kettering and major housing providers like Orbit is delivering local housing for local people in partnership with the community."
Ian Cox Partnership & Development Director at Thomas Vale Construction, added,
“We are delighted that the Housing Minister has chosen to visit our site, and welcome any initiatives that assist the provision of quality affordable Housing, for those in the greatest need!”
The project is due for completion in Spring 2011.
