23/12/09 - Contractor Completes Care Home

A new £5.6 million care home, constructed by Midlands based contractor Thomas Vale Construction has been completed in Quedgley, Gloucestershire. Thomas Vale worked in collaboration with the Gloucestershire Care Partnership to replace Woolstrop House in Quedgeley and Podsmead Court in Gloucester with 2 new state of the art facilities.

The Quedgley development was constructed in two phases, minimising disruption to residents. The existing Woolstrop building was demolished to make room for the new builds. Residents and staff are currently being moved into the new care home.

Glen Schofield, Housing Director, Thomas Vale Construction commented: “We are delighted to be providing new modern homes, with the minimum of disruption to existing elderly residents.”

The design of the new home has been based on the principles of providing plenty of space and the ability to use modern care aids and equipment which has been arranged into four care suites. Each suite has its own communal lounge, dining room and assisted bathing facilities. The 80 spacious resident bedrooms all have en suite bathrooms with wash and hand basins, level access showers and toilets. Other facilities include a bar shop and beauty salon close to the entrance foyer and a large residents lounge at first floor level providing a focal meeting point to the home.
