14/12/09 - Thomas Vale Construction Award Youngsters for Site Safety Competition
Midlands based contractor, Thomas Vale Construction has awarded two young girls with prizes for winning their school site safety competition. The girls from St Peter’s Primary school in Pilning, South Gloucestershire, took part in the competition which outlined the dangers involved on site and the importance of staying safe.
Keith Tinline Purvis, Head teacher, St Peter’s Primary School commented: "Thomas Vale has been very pro-active when it comes to ensuring safety at the building site where our new school is being built. A high proportion of the pupils have to pass the site on their way to and from school and the importance that is placed upon their safety is paramount."
Currently, Thomas Vale is in the process of constructing a new state of the art school for the teachers and staff of St Peter’s which will complete next summer 2010. A new Safe or Sorry (SOS) Initiative, designed and implemented by Thomas Vale was also used in the early stages of the build, highlighting the potential dangers and local respect issues that can surround live construction sites. This follows on from numerous other talks that are undertaken when working in schools and high residential areas.
Jon Davies, Project Manager from Thomas Vale Construction comments: “Our new safety initiatives clearly spell out the safety and community integration messages that we all want to get across. We have had really positive feedback from parents who are impressed with the good messages that this initiative teaches the children.”
The new school will feature an environment which will allow the children to become more involved with their natural surroundings whilst educating them in growing their own fruit and vegetables, providing them with key life skills for the future. With this in mind Thomas Vale Construction will be providing the school with tree swings and a vegetable greenhouse area.
