07/12/09 - Impact on the Community Awards 2009
The annual Trent & Dove Housing “Impact on the Community Awards” event has taken place with individuals and organisations being recognized for their community engagement and helping to create vibrant communities within East Staffordshire.
The finalists in each of the eleven awards categories joined together with event sponsors and organizers in a “red carpet” celebration evening held at the Branston Golf and Country Club. As always, the event recognizes those individuals or organizations whose actions have had an impact on our communities, making them better places to live, or have enhanced individual lives.
Midlands based contractor, Thomas Vale Construction awarded the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen with the winning award as the service provided is invaluable for rough sleepers who are, through circumstance, an excluded group of people. Without the support of the Salvation Army volunteers, life would be even more difficult for them.
Ian Cox, Partnership and Development Director for Thomas Vale Construction comments: “The Salvation Army provides a vital service, which assists the more vulnerable members of society. We are delighted to recognize their vital contribution!”
The Salvation Army volunteers run the soup kitchen at Moseley Street Church in Burton. It opens three days a week and all bank holidays. The soup kitchen provides a vital service to the homeless and vulnerable, enabling the street homeless to get out of the cold and wet and have something warm to eat and drink. The volunteers also work with other agencies to provide food and clothing parcels to make life a little easier for vulnerable clients.
