01/12/09 - Construction Complete at Coppice and Langley
Midlands based contractor, Thomas Vale Construction has completed another new school in the West Midlands. The new £9.1million school based in Sutton Coldfield will provide all the benefits expected of a modern mainstream school, combined with the specialized provision required for teaching and caring for special needs children. The design concept of the two schools is to help special needs students integrate with mainstream pupils.
The school originally functioned as two separate buildings which were both time-expired and inadaptable for the 21st century. The new build consists of one large building which accommodates the learning needs and preferred learning styles of all pupils under one roof, providing an excellent standard of education for over 500 pupils from the age of 3 to 11.
Paul Clarke, Director at Thomas Vale Construction comments; We are extremely proud of the new Coppice and Langley school and want to thank all of those involved, in particular, Birmingham City Council, Coppice and Langley staff and pupils, Governors, consultants, supply chain and Thomas Vale staff. All worked incredibly hard to produce this innovative teaching space which has recently been awarded a BREEAM rating of excellent.”
The new school is surrounded by protected woodland where extensive consultation took place throughout the build to ensure planning permission was granted. Environmental strategies were developed and implemented regarding birds, bats and other wild life species on the site. Thomas Vale used sustainably sourced materials and construction methods which were chosen to reduce their environmental impact during construction.
