15/12/08 - “The Springs” - £4 million Bupa Care Home in Malvern

Work has started on a £4 million design and build Bupa care home in Malvern, Worcestershire and was celebrated with a bricklaying event. The Chairman of Malvern District Council, Councillor Sheila Young kindly came along to mark the occasion, along with members of Bupa and Thomas Vale Construction, the contractors for the project.

The works involve the demolition of an existing house and clearance of an adjacent builder’s yard followed by the traditional construction of a two and three storey 65 bed care home with associated lounges, offices, kitchen, laundry, stores and plant room together with lift installations.
The care home, which is due for completion in September 2009, will offer nursing and care to elderly people and also care to people with dementia. The building will be situated on the junction of Spring Lane close to the centre of town and approximately half a mile from Malvern Wells train station.

Tim Seal, Regional Director for Bupa care homes, said: “The number of people in the UK with dementia is rapidly rising and we have identified a significant local need for dementia care for older people in the Malvern area. We are pleased that the construction of The Springs will allow this requirement to be met. I would like to thank the Chairman of Malvern Council for helping us to mark the official start to the construction of The Springs”.

The British United Provident Association (BUPA) began in 1947. Over fifty years later, Bupa is still the UK's leading independent health and care organisation with have over seven million customers in 180 countries worldwide.

Les Oliver, Thomas Vale Construction said: “Thomas Vale is extremely pleased to be involved in the delivery of this Bupa care home. It will significantly improve the patient experience and providing them with a modern, fit for purpose building”
