25/08/10 - Staffordshire Fire Station Supports Local Art Work

Local schools and community groups have made the new Hanley Fire Station construction site look brighter by painting different designs and pictures on to large 8 x 4 metre boards provided by the contracted construction company, Thomas Vale.

Rehana Iqbal, Community Risk Reduction Officer for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “This was a fantastic and fun way to engage with our local community. The community groups involved had some brilliant ideas and finished art work includes a ‘hose’ and ladders game design, a phoenix and design made up of children’s hand prints.” All the groups have put a lot time and effort in to the project and it show‘s in the end result. It has been a privilege to work with all the groups and met great people.”

The groups involved came together today as construction workers attached the paintings to the outer site hoardings for all to see.

Steve Ball, Contracts Manager at Thomas Vale Construction said: This is further evidence of Thomas Vale’s commitment in working closely with local community groups. We are delighted to be involved in the construction of the new fire station.

Thomas Vale supplied a variety of art materials to The Thomas Boughey Children Centre and Kindergarten, Shelton Youth Service, Brighter Futures, Waterside Primary School and The V team at YMCA who all helped to paint the eight panels with artwork to reflect their involvement with the Service.

“We thoroughly enjoyed being involved in the project” said Angie Keele from Brighter Futures “We feel extremely proud and forged really good friendships along the way.”

Brighter Futures is a registered social landlord whose purpose is to help people recover a sense of self worth and to live in cohesive communities. Zoe Best, Art Coordinator at Brighter Futures said “We all feel a sense of pride to see our art work on display to the public.”

The paintings will remain on the site throughout the duration of the build. For more information on the paintings or on Hanley Fire Station please contact Steve Ball on 07970 829773.
