21/08/09 - Local people receive training opportunities from Thomas Vale Construction

Midlands based contractor, Thomas Vale Construction has instigated a number of training initiatives in and around the Sandwell area through some of their most recent construction projects such as Housing 21, Sandwell Building Schools for the Future (BSF) and Sandwell Decent Homes. These initiatives are focused on providing sustainable routes for a variety people who want to pursue a career in the construction industry. Thomas Vale Construction are preparing local people with life long skills and development with an overall aim of providing the opportunity to increase the aspirations of the people of Sandwell.

Andrew Philips was a student from Sandwell who had recently enrolled onto a BSc degree course in Quantity Surveying; he was interviewed by Thomas Vale Construction and offered a trainee Quantity Surveyors position and the opportunity to continue with his degree course on a sponsorship.Stephanie Wilkinson from Sandwell was in the middle of a Btec in construction studies when she was interviewed by Thomas Vale Construction. She was given the opportunity to continue with her studies whilst being employed as a trainee estimator. Stephanie has now achieved her Btec qualification and will now move on to complete her HNC. Stephanie Wilkinson comments;Thomas Vale Construction have provided me with a high quality of training which has allowed me to further my career within the construction industry”.Amy Gibbs from Sandwell was originally employed as an office manager with a cladding company; she wanted to pursue a career in Quantity Surveying. She attended an in interview with Thomas Vale Construction and was offered a trainee Quantity Surveying position on a sponsorship. Amy has just achieved her HNC in construction studies and will now continue onto the BSc degree course in Quantity Surveying. Amy Gibbs quotes; “Before joining Thomas Vale I was already in my 1st year of HNC Building studies but had no industry experience. Since being with Thomas Vale I have furthered my studies onto the degree and received help and support from all colleagues.”
