09/04/10 - £1.8m development transforms former council garage site into new family homes
The opening of 11 new family homes for affordable rent built on the former site of a disused local authority garage site has been marked with a special celebration, held today.
Attended by Housing Minister John Healy MP and Fiona MacTaggart MP the opening is the latest, and largest by the council who have disposed of a number of disused sites across Slough to housing associations in order to provide more homes for affordable rent.
Pippin Close, off Granville Avenue,Slough – previously plagued by crime and anti social behaviour – was sold to Catalyst Housing Group for redevelopment into affordable family homes.
The former wasteland has now been transformed into 11, much needed, new family homes. Built by Thomas Vale Construction, the new homes each have between three and five bedrooms and benefit from their own private garden. Solar panels on each home boost the development’s eco-credentials.
Julia Moulder, Director of Development for Catalyst said: ‘Being involved in projects like this, where we lead the transformation of a wasted space into much needed family housing, is central to everything we do as a housing association. Now that the homes are complete, we look forward to seeing this former disused garage space developing into a thriving community.’
Ian Cox, Development &Partnership Director at Thomas Vale Construction added “ The new homes have excellent eco- credentials which is good news for residents fuel bills ,and the planet!”
