22/04/09 - Thomas Vale Donate £60’000 to Local Cause

Young people and adults from the ‘Birmingham Ability Counts League’ are celebrating after they received a huge donation of £60’000 from Midlands based contractors Thomas Vale Construction and their Supply Chain Partners. The cheque was presented to the league at Villa Park during half time of the Aston Villa – West Ham United match on Saturday 18th April.

The Birmingham Ability Counts Club was set up to provide the opportunities and facilities for people with special abilities to take part and enjoy the opportunity to play football in a structured and creative environment. They have created opportunities and actively encouraged all club members their families and carers to become involved in the club development, management and organisation of fixtures and ensure that the club structure enables individuals to train and play at an appropriate ability level and develop a skills base in social as well as a sporting environment. This enables preparation to develop confidence and life skills to create working opportunities.

'The Birmingham Ability Counts League is delighted that Thomas Vale and its Supply Chain have entered into this wonderful five year commitment with us. This funding will help the league develop significantly over the coming years bringing football to many more people with disabilities.

Without doubt this gesture will enrich the Midlands community and quite literally have an incredibly positive impact on many people’s lives. Thank you Thomas Vale and your supply chain.'

Karen Geddes, Development Officer, Birmingham Ability Counts League

Thomas Vale have worked in and around Birmingham for over 140 years, the social impact they have in the communities in which they work is something that many of their competitors would fine hard to match.

Paul Dockerill, Housing Director, Thomas Vale commented: Every person deserves the opportunity to be involved with sport, to enjoy the thrill of wearing team colours and taking part develops confidence and team spirit that should be afforded to everyone. Having seen the high standard of football played and the ability of the players in action is an inspiration to everyone involved with this initiative. This is a 5 year commitment that involves one team supporting another to develop and sustain a worthwhile future, a big thank you to our supply chain partners, Aston Villa and Birmingham Ability Counts for this great opportunity to work together
