Contract Journal CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY AWARDS 2007
Last Thursday I attended the above prestigious awards which are held annually at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London. In front of over 1600 people, from Client organisations, professionals and competitors, I was very proud to accept on behalf of Thomas Vale Construction (and associated project teams), several of our industry’s highest accolades, including:
Silver Helmet Award for Health & Safety
Long-term Partnering Award – Birmingham Construction Partnership.
(This award was also won in 2006 by the Birmingham Construction Partnership, which comprises of Birmingham City Council’s Urban Design, GF Tomlinson, Wates and Thomas Vale Construction.)
Judges Supreme Award – Birmingham Construction Partnership
(Thomas Vale was also short listed in this category in our own right.)
The adjudication process is very rigorous with 16 individual judges, independent audits, analysis of data from Client’s and clearly demonstrates the progress we are making to stay ahead of our competitors.
I was particularly proud to collect the ‘Silver Helmet’ Award with Mike Oakley, because construction is the most dangerous sector to work in, with far too many fatalities and major injuries reported annually.
Health & Safety is top of the National Agenda and this award clearly demonstrates that we are taking it very seriously – however, we can always improve!
I should add, I did get a little drunk on the night and got to bed very late which was why it had taken a weekend to recover!
I would like to express my personal thanks to you all for your support and commitment in setting these demanding standards on a consistent basis.
Many thanks,
Tony Hyde
