New Offices for Sutton New Road

Thomas Vale has recently completed a £5.7 million project to build series of five storey office blocks situated on Sutton New Road in Erdington.

The company selected by Birmingham City Council have worked closely with Urban Design to ensure that the project was delivered to the agreed timescales, specifications and budgets.

In addition to providing a light, modern, clean office environment for over 360 City employees, many innovative features have been designed and constructed such as a passive ventilation, fully automated lighting, solar heating and automatic solar shading into the structures. The building has been designed to achieve a BREEAM rating of very good. It also has a low ‘Carbon Footprint’ for a building of this size, having been designed from the outset as a model for minimising carbon emissions and lower long term running costs. One main design feature is the office areas have a radical method of utilising the natural fabric of the building to ‘soak up’ the heat generated during the day. An automated system of ventilators then operates overnight to cool the areas, therefore avoiding the costly provision to the environment of air-conditioning systems.

"Thomas Vale are extremely proud to have been appointed to design and construct these prestigious new offices for Birmingham City Council, the first dedicated new building for the City in over twenty years. The project has successfully dealt with the challenges of a very restricted site to become a dominant landmark in the Erdington area of Birmingham.
These office features will ensure that our Client can enjoy a building that has extremely environmentally friendly credentials for years to come ".
