Women Breaking into Construction
Forum training, a division of Thomas Vale Construction, together with Festival Housing is rising to the challenge to encourage Female Adults to be trained in a variety of construction based skills using the ‘Women in Construction Scheme’. The pilot scheme with Festival Housing aims to help women gain full employment within construction.
Forum Training in partnership with Stourbridge College intends to train and develop five female adults over the age of seventeen from the Herefordshire and Worcestershire area. The training will include NVQ Level 2 in Fitted Interiors (Kitchen/ Bathroom Fitting) and will also cover skills in tiling, plastering and painting providing multi-skilled teams for use in housing refurbishment work.
The project aims to allow the individual to achieve qualifications and gain work experience at the same time. It will also develop an interest in construction to a broader adult market and develop employability skills to improve potential for employment. As well as this it will improve health and safety awareness via the Construction CSCS Health and Safety test and adult literacy and numeracy.
Stourbridge College will provide both classroom theory along with workshop instruction and health & safety guidance at their Ham Lane Centre, Kingswinford. On the Job training and work experience will be provided by Festival Housing. Forum hope the project will be highly successful and encourage more women across the local area to join Construction.
